This 10-foot tall waterfall along Willow Gulch was once 35 feet below the surface of Lake Powell and buried beneath a deep layer of reservoir sediment. Once the waters of the reservoir began to recede down canyon due to the regional drought which began in the year 2000, subsequent flash floods began to scour this sediment layer out of the canyon down to the level of the pre-reservoir streambed here, revealing this waterfall for the first time in decades.
