Named by the local Mazama tribe after a nearby village, Wahclella Falls plunges more than 120′ in two drops along Tanner Creek in the Columbia River Gorge. The final drop of 65 feet seen here is a raging torrent of water which bursts from the narrow canyon like a high-pressure fire hose during the normally-wet months of winter and spring. Due to the abundant rainfall and its low elevation, the Columbia Gorge is a verdant paradise of enormous old-growth firs, dripping moss gardens, waterfalls and ferns all along its 80-mile length through the Cascade Mountains of western Oregon.
