A June sunrise illuminates the high peaks of the Teton Range in northwestern Wyoming in this black & white photograph captured from Snake River Overlook in Grand Teton National Park. This scene ranks high on the list as one of the most iconic vistas of the American West. The still-active Teton fault lies at the foot of the range and continues to thrust these jagged peaks higher and higher into the Wyoming sky. Various river benches can be seen across the river indicating the various courses of the river over the last 10,000 years since the last of the great ice sheets of Yellowstone melted to the north. Vast quantities of icy meltwater flooded this valley with enormous amounts of rocky glacial debris.
