The water flowing down North Creek in Zion National Park have been captured by this long crack in the floor of the canyon. Only 6″ wide and 12″ deep, the entire stream is forced into this narrow channel in a layer of Kayenta sandstone. In this black & white photograph, a shutter speed of several seconds was used to blur the water as it raced through the slot. Zion National Park is truly an oasis in the desert with high-elevation mesas providing a constant flow of perennial water for Zions famous deep and narrow canyons. Most of these small streams join to form the Virgin River which eventually flows into the Colorado River just below the Grand Canyon.
