Goblin Valley contains one of the most remarkable collections of hoodoos on the entire Colorado Plateau. These formations occur within the Entrada Sandstone layer. While this same sandstone layer forms the arches of Arches National Park to the east of this location, it occurs here in a softer form which easily erodes into pinnacles, towers and hoodoos, filling this mile-wide valley wall-to-wall. Southwest from here, the Entrada also forms the huge sandstone towers known as the Temple of the Sun and Moon in Capitol Reef National Park. Goblin Valley is a state park opposed to a national park due to the fact that these hoodoos were located on one of the checkerboard sections of Utah State lands which are intermingled with the more prevalent federal lands. This panoramic photograph was captured with a Fuji GX 617 panorama camera.
