Recently-restored streambed along Ticaboo Canyon at location once 40 feet below the surface of Lake Powell and buried under a 20-foot deep layer of reservoir sediment. An active horizontal “seep line” of spring water flows out of this now-exposed wall and stains the sandstone with white mineral deposits as the water evaporates while dripping down the wall. The reservoir’s fading “bathtub ring” can be seen at the far upper left corner of the image. As the water level of the reservoir dropped due to a regional drought which began in the year 2000, all the accumulated sediment was washed out of the canyon at this location by flash floods, down to the old streambed, thus restoring the pre-reservoir conditions found here.
