In this black & white photograph, the sharp summit of Bearhat Mountain towers above the calm wates of Hidden Lake near Logan Pass in Glacier National Park. If you decide to hike along the crowded trail from Logan Pass to Hidden Lake overlook, you’ll have equal chances of brushing elbows with head-to-toe leather-clad bikers as you will tourist-friendly mountain goats. Beargrass usually blooms here in late July as the last of the winter ice melts from the surface of this beautiful lake at an elevation of 6,375 feet. Although this alpine lake sits at a low elevation compared with other mountain lakes in the Rocky Mountain West, its northern location can force a snow-covered approach from Logan Pass as late as August in some years. This black & white vertical photograph was captured with a 6×7 format camera.
