These beautiful “faces” motifs are only found in one small area in southern Utah. It has been suggested that these unique designs may have their basis in the combination of Fremont and Ancestral Puebloan art. While the Fremont were known for their strong anthropomorphic figures the Ancestral Puebloans were not. Known as the Pueblo II & III “faces” style, these pictographs are distinguished by their elaborate jewelry, headdresses and the pre-smoothing of the rock before the faces were painted on. This black & white horizontal photograph was captured with a 6×7 format camera.
