Located southwest of the town of Banff, the glacier-draped, pyramid-shaped summit of Mount Assiniboine thrusts 11,844 feet into the sky on the border of British Columbia and Alberta in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Often described as the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies, Mount Assiniboine towers above all the surrounding peaks in its immediate vicinity to present an awe-inspiring profile. While Sunburst Peak at right center appears taller than Assiniboine in this vantage point from The Nub, this illusion owes to the fact that Assiniboine if much further away. Along with the other world-class parks of Banff, Kootenay, & Jasper, this region of the Canadian Rockies contains some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world.
