Plunging 150 feet into an inviting pool, Calf Creek Falls lies hidden in a deep canyon under the southern flanks of Boulder Mountain near the town of Boulder, Utah. Fed by the abundant waters of the 10,000-foot high Aquarius Plateau, as beautiful as it is today, this waterfall must have been a spectacular sight 12,000 years ago as the Pleistocene icecap atop Boulder Mountain melted at the end of the last glacial advance. Many of the deep, eroded canyons we see today on the Colorado Plateau are the result of vast amounts of water spilling from these high-country glaciers during the periodic advances of glacial ice during the last 2 million years. The falls can be reached via a 2.5-mile hike from Calf Creek Campground near the Escalante River.
