Colorado River, Spanish Bottom, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

This photograph captures the Colorado River flowing calmly beneath the pinnacles of the Doll House at sunrise in Spanish Bottom here in in the heart of Canyonlands National Park. Just downstream from here, the Colorado River begins its plunge through the rapids of Cataract Canyon. The pinnacles of the Doll House can be reached from here by a trail which climbs steeply to the rim of the canyon. Once on top, extensive views open up across the river into the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park and beyond to the snow-capped 12,000 peaks of the La Sal Mountains east of the town of Moab, Utah.
